Edited by: Imperil on 04/12/2006 18:23:03 Unable to find anything really in 0.0. Have tried 4 systems and scanned each at least 5 times all over.
Also according to the calculations given in the "A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations", it is easier to find a Battleship then it is to find anything bigger - Meaning its more difficult to find a Carrier, Mothership and a Titan then there is to find a Battleship.
Also most people talk about having to scan "15 times all over", I find that quite stupid and totally not interesting nor very involving.
It seems rather stupid that this is what you call "content", when all it takes is to sitt in a system for 2 hours and watch the screen countdown from 600 sec * how many planets in system, and even then, the chance to actully FIND something is almost next to zero.
And not only that, you also introduced racial scanning, meaning you made it twice, no, four times as hard to find anything - Since the structures does not seem to be racially placed, your making a shot into the dark.
I, for once, find bashing my head into a wall a lot more entertaining..

Probing ships for me has become increasling frustrating, when we get ships log off at gate yeah we can insta blow them up... but we want to probe pods... aggression timer of log off should be increased to 30mins , as it takes 30 mins to probe 10 times to even try and get a result of a capsule. as of yet i have not succeeded probing out a capsule, i beleave probing is now chance based now ? not just get within range and probe ... :( as for these hidden complexs i have yet to find one either :|

The exploration system appears to be working at least sometimes .. I have been able to find two hidden deadspaces so far, and one of them initiated an 'expedition' leading to another system. Here are some suggestions to make the experience more interesting and fun for players:
1) Sometimes you get the sinking feeling that there's nothing at all to be found in a system, no matter how many times you probe. Please add some indicator when the chance of an exploration hit is absolutely zero, such as "CONCORD astrosurveying database reports that this system is completely charted"
2) When exploration triggers an expedition to another system, it would be better if the destination system were in the same region as the first. Since political control in 0.0 generally follows region boundaries, many expeditions simply will not be followed up if they lead into another alliance's region.
3) Consider allowing probes of different racial types to be launched in each others' scan radius.

Regarding exploration Method: Drop 1 quest probe at each celestial object and scan for everything repeatedly until the probe expires, around 1 hour. Location: 0.0 space, Different systems in the tenerifis Region. Tools: Trained the new skills, using a Helios for the scanning time bonus. Time spent scanning: 23 hours over several days.
RESULTS: One very disappointing "Angel Base" complex found. The plex consisted of 2 rooms, very low loot drop rate, below average bounties, and no special salvage components.
Conclusion: Either the chance of finding signatures is far too low, or they are just very rare. I generally spend 4 hours in a system, each hour spent trying a different type of racial probe.

Well, I'm currently training Astrometrics V, so no feedback for sniffing out the cosmic signatures yet, but:
If one has to launch multiple probes for different races, and scan for hours in each system for the "chance", they're not going to pursue this!
Its way way way overly complex, too much like a BMW.
If a complex or something else is in the system, it should show up when you scan for it. Period.
Why waste people's time, and make them bored to death with it? Its supposed to be fun...and this probe system saps the fun out of it. I'm still going to give it a whirl ,but if its at all what people are saying, I can have way more fun mining. And that's sad.
Don't get me wrong, you have the best game ever made, but I just wonder why things are made so overly complex sometimes when they could be made "fun" instead. ---------------------------------------------------

After release i found 2 deadspace complexes within the first scan of the system (using one gravimetric quest probe on each moon), some corp mates and i ran the complexes (one drone, one gristas) and after down time we checked the safespots leading to the accelleration gates, the gates where gone (no suprise as they had been completed) and further scans of both systems have for the last few days indicated No results.
Last night i spent 2 hours scanning the same system, moving probes around the central planets the second time. Was hoping there would be at least one signature of any type available, but seems that is not the case..

Edited by: Morhon on 05/12/2006 00:47:35 Edited by: Morhon on 05/12/2006 00:33:12 I only THINK I know how to do exploration through one hell of alot of guess work and forum searches. Reading the posts here so far, it seems i am on the right track. Unfortunatly I don't have lvl5 astrometrics yet so can't say if it is working for me.
All I can say is that Exploration, Invention and Cosmos seem very heavily related and all rather difficult to get into. If I ever manage to put all the pieces together I will let you know if exploration is working for me
Everyone one that has asked me (knowing i'm into the new exploration thingy) assumes you drop spooks or the old probes in general. I assumed the same till I saw a dev post in the game development forum. It's a little over complicated IMHO
Oh and even if I could use the new probes I can't find any or the bpos for them :(

The exploration system works quite perfectly, there is some errors me and my friends have made and we havent got the progress to the end (expedition complex).
for the amount of time u need to use its perfectly good! ppl who are whining "it takes too long" etc stop becouse thats part of the exitement and in EVE it should allways be so that u need to work for the good things to come, i hate when things are made too easy.
1 thing worry me tho, the amount of skillbooks and the amount of gas cloud harvesters, we have found the cloud but not the book and not the module, its starting to worry me whats the % of places u can find where these 2 things are required? (maybe add some small frig in gas clouds that drop 1 module and 1 skillbook that aint enough for ur corp anyway so u need to keep exploring).
about the difficulty level: we had 2 ravens with 6 slot tank who warped on complex 1st we needed to adjust our tactics that we got trough the first room without our ravens goin pop and i love it the difficulty level is quite high and thats how it should be.
no complains here about the system, but info from ccp has been very very low level, would like to hear things from you more (is there any skillbooks anywhere really ? )
oh well thats part of the fun also tho

Im living down in Esoteria and scanned one constellation so far (only with radar probes). It's very time consuming. I dropped a single Quest Probe on any Planet and scanned one houre for Cosmic Signatures in each solar system. 1 constellation or 8 hours later...still nothing.
To be one the save side it seems you have to drop a probe of each type (radar / ladar) in a system to be on the save side. 4 hours for one System for the chance to find nothing? I realy like the exploration feature but at the moment its more frustrating than fun.

Regarding exploration, its tempting to ask for greater feedback rather than the slowly soul destroying hours of "No scan signatures detected", that is some feedback that though you havent managed to get a result, there is something in range of a probe, somewhere.
However there is still so much we dont know, what is the probability of an exploration site being in a system, how are they distributed e.g. is it essentially caldari space/guristas = gravimetric probes, a probability distribution or, that is gravimetric sites are more likely in Guristas areas or is it simply random.
Ive scanned several high sec and a couple of low sec ones over the course of a couple of days and uncovered one mining site in a 0.4 system, gnesis and ochre with a value of around 28M I guess. Perhaps not the most interesting, and if it wasn't in the system it is I suppose it would be a nice reward.

I've now spent 3 "play" evnings sessions scanning 3 adjenct systems in empire with no result, and must say that I'm kinda frustrated that nothing shows up. Method used was to spam the systems with 4 au grav propes in caldari space for approx 1 hour each system. I'm now at the point of doing 2 or 3 times more scanning on TQ than I did on the test server where I did find 1 encounter which was low rewarding but fun nontheless. It's not very rewarding sitting around for 3 play nights with nothing to show for it, I might as well do regular missions..given the time currently spent, I'm kinda looking at that at the moment...

problem is that ur in empire space.. those things are much much more common in 0.0. and thats the way it should be.

The system works nice , like the way that the Players must figured out what way it must be done. i scanned 4 Plexes in 3 days and it was a great time ......... it was fun to find a new complex ....... but the reward was crappy and we find none special thing in the sites , Normal belt loot and the Stronghold drop normal tec 1 , and the plex was harder than a 10/10 ........ thats kill the fun none Risk vs Reward balancing .
And not the special things that prommise.
Are they buged ? ..... come on CCP ..... fix the Drop Tables or the most players stop using this nice thing before it is right in the game .

Yeah the plexes are damn hard= good thing that u cant do them solo (this is mmo ffs :p ). but yeap theres some issues with drops as i said we havent found _anything_ usefull this far. we just thought we missed somehing, but after ur post i think thats not actually the whole truth... it should not be revealed what u can get from them ofc (that would ruin the fun tbh) but atleast i would like to know they are tested... another thing is the codebreaker and analyzer would be nice to know where the heck use them? is there some special indicator that yells "hack me!" or do we need to go every large collidable structure trough..... tbh that wouldnt be so much fun....

I read that Lemonde was looking for feedback for 0.0 cosmos AND exploration.. and btw, should they both be less rewarding and less frequent in empire, is that what it's supposed to be like?, in that case, it might be advisable to take em all together out of empire since nobody will bother with it there after a while given the time involved, better option than dangling a carrot for players only leaving them frustrated, or wouldn't it perhaps be better to have them as similar in frequency but less rewarding as the agent system?

Biggest complaint about this IMO is the total lack of documentation. Currently, there's no real way to know if you're doing it wrong, or not, if the gas cloud books/mods are available, or not, etc. Just some information on how it's all supposed to work could go a long way; currently it seems like CCP is using playerbase posts on the forums to write up the manual on this section. Same goes for invention and the exploration aspects of that.

We have found a Small Signature ( Hard to find ) 3 Hours of probing , there Was some Containers that must be opened with the Analyser and some with the Salveger , inside was over all ca. 150 Standart rig parts ( found in the belts here too ) split in 7 different types ( not enough for just one rig ) , that was it . They look like normal cans that say " Need a analyzer to open " when you tray to open it .
Hope this helps .

How to identify the 8 COsmos constellation, we need to scan for each constellation, hopping to find things ?
or we can scan with th enormal scanner for "agent in space" or other things appear on the directionnal scanner, before spending HOURS for a things who don't exists.
In every system we can fing things by exploration or only in the 8 Cosmos constellation ? ----------- Igvar Thorn arn ! |

Scanning has become quite annoying, i utterly hate the chance based system. Other then that the new complexes are nice, some of them contain amusing items 0.0 Cosmos agents arent anything special due to their boring rewards, youre better of running missions in empire as then you have a station to refit at, loyalty points, market nearby and no major loss in rewards. ---------------------------

Im using the obseravtion probes is this a bad idea?
I got the impression these were the best to use!!
I have scan 2 systems with no exploration stuff in either (0.0)
Do I have to scan more then once, Im at a loss on how this works o.O

Take a look at Hoshi's and Joerd Toastius' guide in the ship and modules forum. You want to be using the new exploration probes e.g. gravimetric quest/pursuit/comb/sift probes rather than the old ones.

You could make exploration slightly easier by getting rid of the 4 racial probes, and just have 1 set of 4 probes with the same scan strength for all 4 racial types.
And change the material requirements of the blueprints to just minerals (take away the advanced components).

I love the new exploration, and for all which are already crying its to hard, man just try it 10 times and not 2.
Just serious we are all Low Skilled ( new skill one or two to 4), we have no rigs in the ships. Player scanning in a none Covert Ops are surly doomed). The Input on the Systemis low form CCP ( AND THAT IS GOOD). Exploration is not just fly to point a,b,c,d do the little dirty dance and fly home with reward. Exploration is also exploring HOW THE SYSTEM IS WORKING.
So try it out and dont give up, and again change your style of playing when exploration dont fitts you. Dont try to change the system:
PS: For all asking, Gas CLoud Harvester are in the Game, Teh Skill is in the game, and Gas Cloud are in the game. Drug Produktion will start shoortly. Dont ask me where we found it and what we have done. Try it out and do it on your own. Its fun you know.

I just have to LAUGH at some of the replies in here.

Yes, I guess you find it very exiting AND very cool to sitt in a system, watch a screen, and scan for hours to find something.
I guess you also find MINING very exiting too eh? Just sitt and watch at your screen and see the ore come in your hangar. That is what you call content is it not?
Too bad this is not how the rest of the community feel. They want to have fun and enjoy their time playing, making it UBER HARD and take 5 hours per system is NOT the way to make it fun, no matter what you think - "Oh oh, it is very balanced and EXITING me think!". Well, what the f*** is EXITING when all you do is watch your screen for scan results, and if no results found, scan again?
Quote: I love the new exploration, and for all which are already crying its to hard, man just try it 10 times and not 2.
Yes, you thought this was a smart reply did'nt you? Go back to your nub-hut please..
The EVE community want content with fun and depth, not some mindless sitt and scan and one in a million - You get a RESULT!

The system seems fine. Once we get Recon Launchers later today, we are home free.
Even without them ive got a scan time of about 4 minutes, which give me at least 10 attempts on a quest probe. Sure you then have to hit the right probe time as well to get a real chance.
This is fine: The site SHOULD NOT be easy to find. If they where, they would have to not give much bonus as everyone would be doing them.
They are not complexes on demand...

There is a difference between difficult to find and MINDLESS action.
You want it difficult to find? Make only about 5 complexes in each region, when they are done they respawn somewhere else during downtime. NOW, you actully have to move around in SPACE to EXPLORE the new CONTENT, instead of just SITTING STILL in ONE SYSTEM hoping for RESULTS!

Exploration probes dont fit into recon launchers, hence no change. Normal scan probe launchers need to be made faster, that or we need an advanced skill that reduces scan time ^_^ -----
